How to bathe your Sphynx?
This is one of the most popular FAQ we’ve been receiving.
There are no strict rules on this one. It depends on how fast your cat gets dirty, and this is very individual. Some cats need to be washed every week, and for some cats once a month is pretty enough.
I should mention that sometimes a simple wet towel wiping can be sufficient. But if you really want to bathe your pet be careful not to scare it. Don’t make too much of a water pressure and plunge you cat slowly into the water holding it’s back and front paws tightly. Generally cats don’t like bathing, but there are exceptions.
To bathe Sphynx I use kids shampoo, without fragrance and PH – neutral. You have to lather real quick and don’t forget to hold the paws. You can also use a sponge or something similar but make sure that there isn’t too much foam. Wash the paws carefully, pay special attention to the areas between the fingers. Make sure that soap doesn’t get to your pet’s snout – actually you don’t have to really wash it can just wipe it with your wet hand or a cloth. Don’t let the water get into your pet’s ears .
After bathing wipe your pet gently and precisely with a cloth. Make sure you dry your cat well, it can catch a cold easilly. Treat it as you would treat a child. Soon your pet will get used to bathing.
It doesn’t matter how often you bathe your cat – you still have to clean it’s ears once a week. You have to keep it’s eyes clean too. Sphynxes can sometimes have brown detachments in their eyes – it’s normal. Use a cotton ball to wipe it away.
